Careers Experienced Hires

Building and maintaining an industry-leading product, capable of managing millions of complex contracts, offers plenty of interesting technical challenges.

Alfa has opportunities for Java developers with at least two years’ commercial experience. Working on our industry-leading enterprise software product, you will be delivering the benefits of cutting-edge Java technologies to Alfa’s clients in the asset finance industry.

As our product grows, so does its complexity and so do the tasks of management, architecture, DevOps, QA and all other essential areas of software development.

When you join, your role will be determined based on experience and preference, and can vary over time. Sideways movements are welcomed, even encouraged, with no fear of loss of seniority. Want to join as a developer, but not sure whether you are interested in progressing to management or architecture? Prefer the idea of both? We can accommodate you. Want to get out of engineering entirely? Movement into our consultancy projects - and back - is a common occurrence.

Graduate Programme

Brainy, sociable, and fresh from university? You’ll do well.

Careers Grad Programme 1

We look for people with outstanding talent and achievement, including an excellent academic record. If you can demonstrate this, we’ll teach you everything you need to know.

Every aspect of an Alfa Systems implementation is carried out together with the client, so you’ll be willing to work in different locations around the world.

You don’t require a technical background to excel in this role. Of course, if you’ve been involved in IT or software development, you may find it easier in the early days. The main prerequisite is a desire to learn about technology and finance.

We have a number of intakes in a year. If you’re intending a break after graduating, but would like to interview now for a place in a future intake, we’re happy to accommodate this.

Applications for the 2020 graduate programme will open in September 2019.

How long is the recruitment process?

Experienced hires. Once we have received your application, we will ask you to complete a technical test of around two hours. If successful you will then have a technical phone interview that lasts around 30 minutes. You will then move on to three face-to-face interviews - HR, technical and finally with Board members. We can do all of this in a couple of weeks.

Graduates. We aim to get back to you within a week. If we invite you for an interview, this will happen quickly - probably around a week after contact. The second interview is carried out in a similar period of time and an offer can be made within a month of initial contact.

How can I prepare for the interview process?

Experienced hires. We are looking for a combination of your technical skills and your desire to work for Alfa. It’s in your best interests to know what kind of culture and environment you are getting into. It’s always good to research the company through our website and recruitment materials.

Graduates. You know what qualities and skills you bring to us, so make sure you tell us. We need to be sure you are actually interested in the different facets of the role, so researching and showing an enthusiasm for the industry and our projects is a must. Showing how you stand out from the crowd can be tough, so have a think before the interview about the achievements and experiences that make you the best person for the job.

How much time will I spend coding?

Experienced hires. We are recruiting for multiple roles in our technical environment. If you want to spend the majority of time getting your hands dirty that’s fine, but if you want to take on other responsibilities such as team leading there’s plenty of opportunity for that too.

Graduates. Every new joiner at Alfa starts off by learning our product from the inside-out; that means software development. After your initial training and depending on your career path, you will either join our central development team (Product Centre) or you will move to an implementation role on one of our client projects. Both options are accompanied by appropriate training and support along the way.
