Alfa's Miro Torma and Ryan Fong on the Halo Cycle Tour

In March, two Alfa employees based in South Africa, Miro Torma and Ryan Fong, formed part of a small team of amateur cyclists aiming to cycle from Gqeberha to Cape Town, all in the name of raising funds and awareness for the country’s leading charity in battling cancer, the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA).

Over the course of eight back-to-back days and under the protection of two bike marshals, the team covered a distance of 950km and climbed over 9,000m in elevation. Starting each day at 5 am, the journey took them through some of the most spectacular parts of the beautiful country. But it was not without its challenges, with the cyclists having to battle through searing temperatures and crosswinds at times gusting 50km/h.

Through the generosity of Alfa and its employees, the two managed to raise a significant 60,000 Rand in funds for the charity. A few examples of how far this amount can go are:

  • R90 will help fund a Clinical Breast Examination
  • R180 will help pay for a Prostate Specific Antigen blood test screening for prostate cancer
  • R220 will enable the purchase of a tin of meal replacement for a child
  • R380 will help fund consumables & cytology for one Pap smear test, screening for cervical cancer, and a clinical breast examination
  • R650 will enable CANSA to provide accommodation, food, and transport to one cancer patient, per day, staying at CANSA’s Care Homes, who live far away from treatment centers

A huge thank you to those who supported Miro and Ryan throughout, and to those who donated to this life-changing cause.
