Virtual 5k for a Cause
Last Bank Holiday weekend, 10-13 April 2020, Alfa employees from the UK, the USA and Australasia participated in a ‘Virtual 5k for a Cause’, organised by Alfa’s global CSR team.
Using the fitness tracking app Strava, colleagues ran, walked and cycled 5 kilometres and donated money to charity on completion of the challenge.
John Watts, a Project Manager based in Alfa’s Dallas, Texas office who initiated the challenge explained:
"The Virtual 5k for a Cause was a great opportunity for many of us at Alfa to get out of the house, stay active, do something together as a virtual community, and to help support charities in these difficult times."
In the UK, participants have so far raised £775 for the mental health charity Mind. The US were fundraising for United Way’s south-eastern Michigan community relief fund and have raised $590 USD. In Australia and New Zealand, $250 NZD was raised for KidsCan, a charity providing emergency food relief to vulnerable children in New Zealand. Alfa will match 100% of each donation made, bringing the totals raised to £1550 for Mind, $1180 USD for United Way and $500 NZD for KidsCan.
